PROJECT 9: MOUNTING AN EXHIBITION
In this project 9, we are required to mount an exhibition with the name of Mindshapes: XZbitRUS101. That’s the exhibition in which we are going to display 5 of our previous assignments’ photos. Besides that, each of us is given with a box for pasting the photos on it.
Therefore, a group of 15 members is formed. With the blessing from, I was the leader of my group which consists of Ong Khai Lim, Teoh Tong Min, Low Zhi Ling, Pang Ling Xiang, Fong Sum Yee, Ang Lee Thing, Leong Siew Mei, Sua Yi Zheng, Lee Wei Pin, Lim Gene-Harn, Amelia Liew YenChi, Sim Dan Zhou, Lam Xin Yee and Ng Pui Yeen.
We started our discussion and at last we decided to take further action after ensuring our location of site. Before that, I shall give my highest appreciation to Tong Min’s mother for helping us in helping us to sew the sarung.
On 16 October 2009, we were glad to find out that our site is at E48A on the left hand side along the staircase. Soon after that, we carried out discussion on how to assemble our boxes while we were pasting our mask on the sarung. After much more discussion and arguments, we decided to open up the boxes and pasted it on the wall with the design like a stair. With the inspiration from TH Rusli, we made changes and improvements until we got his approval and we ended it as a day.
The next day, we constructed two entrances with our additional boxes and started to paste our photos on the box. Then, we pasted our personal portrait on the sarung which is hanging on the wall as well. The sarung without anything pasting on it was being hung outside the lecture hall.
From this project, we learnt the importance of leadership and communications. Without team works, everything will never be done. Our intention is to mount an exhibition and therefore we act by installing the exhibition. The product is the exhibition named Mindshapes: XZbitRUS101. The actors are all the group members in my group which I mentioned earlier on. The rules are simple too. Boxes should be assembled and 5 A4 borderless photos should be pasted on it. The installation is being held from 16-18 October 2009. Finally, the site which is E48A.

PROJECT 6 : URBAN PLAN
In this project 6, we are required to come out with a five minute power point slideshow and an unbound A3 size hardcopy regarding a proposal of USM School of Design, The Seed of biodiversity.
My group with the name, ”The Initiator” consists of SOONDOOS BINTI MOHD ZAHRY, SUA YI ZHENG, TAN SHEN HAW, MASYITHOH BINTI ZAINOL, NUR 'AMIRAH MOHD NOH, and LEONG SIEW MEI. My group has chosen the site No.13 which is an undeveloped site and it doesn’t contain any building nor other man made structure as our site and we were responsible in the energy bank development.
We planned to use solar energy, wind energy, and biogas energy as our energy source. Therefore, solar board panel, windmill and biogas tank shall be constructed in order to carry out the task.
The design details are as followed:
- It is a 3 floor height building which is around 24 meter height and 5x5 meter base.
- It consists of an underground structure which is used for the biogas tank.
- It is surrounded by all the bushes to ensure all the carbon dioxide produced had been absorb and being transferred into oxygen.
In this project, our intention is to carry out a proposal of the USM School of Design, The Seed of biodiversity. Therefore, we act by coming out with the idea and transform it into power point slideshow and A3 hardcopy. The product is the proposal which is the combining of each group’s proposal. The actors are SOONDOOS BINTI MOHD ZAHRY, SUA YI ZHENG, TAN SHEN HAW, MASYITHOH BINTI ZAINOL, NUR 'AMIRAH MOHD NOH, and LEONG SIEW MEI. In addition, the actors are also included other groups’ members who contribute to the proposal too. The rules are simple. There is no cutting down of trees or demolishing of building. The site is precincts of USM School of Design.

PROJECT 4 : GEORGE TOWN SPACES
In this project 4, we are required to visit the world heritage site of George Town in group of five. Therefore, we formed a group consists of Tan Shen Haw(me), Sua Yi Zheng, Lee Wei Pin, Peter Chin and Ng King Hui. We have to choose three buildings with the common theme. And for my group, the theme chosen is the Old British. Buildings chosen are the Wisma Kastam Pulau Pinang, the Standard Chartered Bank and the Town Hall.
We went to the world heritage by taking the Penang Rapid bus. What we have learnt throughout this project is we get to explored to the environment outside our campus which we see things in a different angle and view. We need to communicate among one another and working on our photographically recording. Furthermore, we need to jolt down what we have seen and try to understand the surrounding environment. It was the first project where we have to carry outside of the campus and was even issued virtually. It was challenging but we gained a lot from it.

PROJECT 8 : ONE MALAYSIA COMMUNITY CONSTRUCTION
In this project 8, we are required to provide a community construction at our respective site. And I have selected the Bukit Jenaton group.
On 2nd October 2009, we gathered at Anjung Budi, USM before we proceed to our site which is the Bukit Jenaton, USM. Once arrived, we had a short briefing by TH Rusli in the Eco-Hub Conference Room. Then, we are introduced to a botanist with the name of Mr. Adnan.
Right after the briefing, we had a breakfast. Next, we divided into two groups with one group working with the sprinkles installing task and the other group was dealing with the tagging task. I was in the sprinkles installing group. With the help and leading by Mr. Adnan, we carried out the sprinkles installation. First of all, we measured the tube by 10 feet and then we poke a hole from just one side and we fixed the sprinkles into the hole. Then, the tube fixed with sprinkles was pulled into the jungle and hung over the trees. The next day we went for tagging process over the jungle. Mr. adnan introduced us various types of plants.
From this project, our intention is to provide our community construction service. Therefore, we act by working at Bukit Jenaton, USM. The product at last was the installation of water sprinkles and also the tagging of plants. The actors of this project are all the 31 students, the studiomasters and also the botanist with his workers. There were numerous rules to be followed when we entered the jungle such as we aren’t made noise and we did not step on the plants. The site is Bukit Jenaton, USM.

Assignment 7 : Bamboo Box & Gift @ Potluck Bamboo Do
In the assignment 7, we are asked to produce a cube with the dimension 1m x 1m x 1m by using bamboos. Besides that, we have to create a small object as a gift using the bamboos too. As such, we made order with an uncle in order to get the bamboos. Though it was an individual assignment, I worked with another three girls as I believe working with team is more effective while trying to help them to cut the bamboo as it is hard for girls to cut the bamboo. Then, we tied the bamboo using rope. For the small object, I came up with a small bamboo with a hole where I made it to be a candle. The purpose of doing it is for being used in the coming assignment 8 where we have to stay inside the forest and a candle might be useful. Furthermore, there is a rope hanging it which made it looks like the Chinese “Tang Lung” and the moon cake festival is coming and we are staying in the forest on that day so it might be seen as a tang lung too.
The intention of this assignment is to come up with a cube 1m x 1m x 1m by using bamboo and also a small object. Therefore, we act by cutting the bamboo into 1m each and tied it up using ropes. And the final product is the cube with the small object. The actors for this assignment is myself and another three girls who are Fong Sum Yee, Ang Lee Thing and Leong Siew Mei thought it is an individual assignment. We realized that working in team might be more effective. The rule is simple that’s to form a cube with dimension of 1m x 1m x 1m by using bamboo. The site that we choose is our first year studio where there is a large area which enables us to tie up the cube whereas we choose the area beside the studio to cut the bamboo so that it won’t affect others.
