Kem Pimpin Siswa 7-9 August 2009

On 6th August 2009, I went for a briefing on the camp pimpin siswa which I went on the next day. I was selected into the PJ SENTOSA CAMP which situated at Kedah.

On 7th August 2009, I gather with my friends at the Padang Kawad, USM before 9a.m. just as what we are told to do so. Then we boarded the bus according to our camp and groups. It took us almost 3 hours to reach the campsite. The environment is great and refreshing. After putting down our luggage, we went for a lunch. It was a simple meal. Next, we had a short briefing and all our valuable belongings are kept by the facilitators. Soon after that we were divided into different patrons. I was in Patron 4. In my patron, there are 9 members which consist of 2 chinese and 7 malays. Then the facilitators demonstrated how to build a tent and we built up own our one. It required teamwork and communication.

Facilitators helped dividing us into different patrons.

With all the equipments, we were moving to the site for our tent.

Right after that was a formal gathering at the padang kawad where the along and other leaders were being selected. Then we were being introduced to the camp commander. We were warned to toe the line in the camp as punishment will be given if we broke the regulations. At night we had an ice breaking event. We get to know more friends throughout the activities and we also learn the importance of teamwork. We need to communicate among each other.

That's our along being choosed.

We were having fun during the ice breaking activities.

Around 2a.m. we are allowed to sleep. But, we are woke by the siren around 2:30a.m. as we were going for a jungle tracking. It was a challenging event which requires the trust among one another and we need to communicate among each other. We learnt to pass the message one by one and we moved by holding the front and behind person’s hand. During the jungle tracking, the males are asked to move alone for a certain distance to train our bravery and determination. There was a female student who fainted during the event but with the teamwork shown by everyone, she was being rescued.

On 8th August 2009, we woke up around 6a.m. and gathered at the padang kawad. As usual, we had a formal gathering there. Then, we had morning exercise before we moved on to the next activities. After that, we had some sort of games. For those patrons who lost in the games, they need to pass their flag to the winning patrons. The flag symbolize the trust from the camp commander. Once again, for those who lost their flags they were being punished by the camp commander. After some sort of games, we had an activities named survivor cooking. We were given limited materials that we need in cooking and we had to learn to negotiate with other patrons in order to get the other things that we need for our cooking. Then, we had group discussion on the topic given and preparation for the night performance. Then, we went for another jungle tracking and we also being asked to swim across a small lake. We learnt about confident floating too. At night, with lucks and hard works shown by my patron members, my patron emerged as the champion with our performance named “Nothing is impossible” which entertained everyone a lot.

Get caught!!Everyone is warming up early in the morning and he is stand sleeping. That's how a HBP student treasure every single moment to rest.

Even the facilitator is enjoying.Nice pose!!

On 9th August 2009, we woke up around 5a.m. for a moral talk with the title “One Malaysia”. We were being introduced about the concept of One Malaysia including the eight values. After that we went back to our tent to clean up the place and packed our belongings. Then, we met with the camp commander again to hand back the trust that he passed to us before and for those who lost theirs flag and name tags, they were being punished by performing cat walk and also some sorts of funny actions. We had a video viewing session before the photo taking session. We saw all our experiences throughout the three days camp and we appreciate what we have learn from it. It seems to be a short three days but it means a lot to me.

The two cute facilitators were acting.Nice shot...

Poor guy who spoiled his shoes during jungle tracking.

I was acting as a ghost in the night performance which my patron emerged as champion of the night.

There must be an intention in my heart for me to take part in the camp. I intended to learn something different from what we can learn in the lecture hall. Throughout the camp, I learned how to communicate with other people who I don’t know them before. I even learned the importance of teamwork. I experienced and felt the natural environment rewarded by our God. Everything that I learned from the camp was the product through my act which was my participation in every activities organized. There must be actor too. In this camp, there are many actors such as the camp commander, the facilitators, the students, myself and even the cook who prepared our meals. There are many regulations in which we had to follow during the camp. Whenever we met with the camp commander, we must wish him and called him as “Tuan”. When we are asked to sleep, we shall not lag outside our tent. And finally the site which was the PJ Sentosa Campsite located at Kedah.
